gifting of the whenua, 61 rangiaowhia road - 2 January 2024
We invite you to attend the Celebration and acknowledgement of gifting the whenua at 61 Rangiaowhia Road 2 January 2024
Maaku anoo e hanga i tooku nei whareKo ngaa pou o roto, he mahoe, he patate, ko te taahuuhuu he hinauMe whakatupu ki te hua o te rengarengaMe whakapakari ki te hua o te kawariki
Te Tongi aa Kingi Tawhiao
On the fourth of September, members of the Anglican Church Te Haahi Mihingare and Ngaati Apakura, gathered in historic Saint Paul’s Rangiaowhia to acknowledge their original association in the mid-nineteenth century, and also the tragic inability of Anglican Bishop George Augustus Selwyn to guarantee the protection of Ngaati Apakura non- combatants in the attack of 21 February 1864.
As a tangible expression of this acknowledgement, Te Hui Amorangi ki te Manawa o te Wheke and the Anglican Diocese of Waikato and Taranaki, as transitional owners of the land adjacent to Saint Paul’s, conveyed the formalities of a title deed transfer of 4.7 hectares at 61 Rangiaowhia Road to the Ngaati Apakura Runanga Trust. This is seen as a matter of restorative justice and partnership, thus supporting the long held vision of the tribe to develop again upon their ancestral lands of Rangiaowhia in their own capacity.
Ngaati Apakura would like to invite you to the acknowledgment and celebration of the gifting of this taonga on the 2 January 2024 at 61 Rangiaowhia Road.

FIRST SINGLE RELEASE "APAKURA"
By OCeans Before Me
For the past year, Oceans Before Me has been actively engaged in a collaborative effort with our Apakura leaders, whanāu and kaumātua to create an album of waiata to share and tell the story of Apakura.Through the efforts of this enriching journey, it brings us immense joy to announce the release of their first single, "APAKURA" from their upcoming album. To commemorate this significant milestone, they have produced a music video that will be unveiled on the evening of Friday, August 11th, this very week. We extend a special invitation to all members of Apakura to join us for a private event where we will showcase the music video at Te Awamutu Regent Theatre, located at 235 Alexander Street, beginning at 2:30pm.
We sincerely hope that you can attend this exclusive occasion and relish in the experience of this collaborative creative endeavor. As a gesture of gratitude, we will be providing popcorn, kai, and refreshing beverages for your enjoyment.
May this artistic process serve as a catalyst for preserving the legacy of Apakura and inspire individuals to uplift and embody the intrinsic core values of our community.
